Antonio C. Castro is chair of the Complex Commercial Litigation group and concentrates his practice in the areas of complex commercial litigation and arbitration and appeals. With nearly 30 years of experience as a commercial and business litigator, Tony has represented multinational corporations, individuals and local companies in commercial disputes, including breach of contract, enforcement of non-compete, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements, business dissolutions, partnership disputes, contract litigation and business torts, including interference with business relationships. He has notably tried more than 40 jury cases as a prosecutor and brings that depth of courtroom experience to his client representations.
Tony began his career as an Assistant State Attorney in Miami-Dade County, where he spent years in the front lines of litigation investigating crimes, interviewing and preparing witnesses, selecting juries, examining and cross-examining witnesses, delivering effective opening and closing statements, and prosecuting cases to the full extent of the law. Because of his ability and experience, he was selected to teach litigation skills to junior prosecutors.
Following his government service, Tony entered private practice in 1996 and later joined a national litigation firm representing major companies in defending mass tort and class action litigation. As litigation counsel to these companies, Tony represented clients on early case resolution and damage management issues, witness interviews and fact development, and trial team and expert selection. He planned and participated in the pretrial preparation of complex and high-value trials, including mock jury selection and jury trials with national experts.
Fluent in Spanish, Tony has handled litigation matters involving various foreign jurisdictions in Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean, and has litigated numerous matters relating to forum non conveniens.
Tony remains active in the legal community, and works closely with judges and other legal leaders to continually improve the bar. He has served on The Florida Bar's Civil Procedure Rules Committee, on the Advisory Committee on Rules and Procedures for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, as the Chairman of the Florida Bar's Grievance Committee 11-C, and as the President of the Cuban American Bar Association and as a Director of the League of Prosecutors. He is also active in the Belen Alumni Association and Lawyers Section.
He is AV Preeminent® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been recognized and listed repeatedly in Florida Super Lawyers and in Florida Trend Magazine’s Legal Elite. He was also listed in South Florida’s Top Rated Lawyers for his work in appellate law and commercial litigation.
